[press agency.] New Plymouth, August 17. The prospectus is issued of the New Plymouth Gas Company, and shares are being su'isciibed for liberally. Napier, July 17. A reply from Earl Beacons field to tbe congratulatory telegram from here was received to-day as follows : —“ My colleagues and I desire to express our thanks to the people of Napier for their message.” LATEvST UNPUBLISHED. Christchurch, August 19. The agitation for West Coast railways continues. It is thought that if the Canterbury members work together, they will be able to carry the extension from Amberley, though it is feared the Minister for Pubiic Works will work against them in favour of Otago.
