NEW GUINEA INLAND.

The Rev. J.' P. Sunderland, of Sydney, sends, to the Mbrning ’Herald an abstract of the voyage; of the Rev. J. Chalmers in the mission steamer > Ellengowan, and an account of his, journey inland, at the several places ■ where the steamer called, fi»m which we extract the following “We left Kerepunu and .went to Huh, when I .went inland to two splendid villages (Hainan and Papaka) through miles of banana plantations kept beautifully clean with ■ walks running in all directions along lanes formed, by fences of bamboo, inside of which grew cocoanuts, bread fruit, banna, sugar cane, &c, The houses were well built and very - large, the streets were kept clean and all refuse was carried outside to some distance. They had market houses and iharket regulations. From Hula we visited all the mission stations on our way to Port Eoresby, Kaile, Tupu, fSelei, Pari, Vapo, Lore, PasilL At Port’Moresby all was well. We visited every nook and corner in and around it. We had a pleasant meeting with the teachers. Ruatoka has got a class of little folks about him as nice as I have .seen anywhere. They read well, and Rna’s wife has taught tbe girls to wash. We look up and hope the cloud is moving before the light of troth. We visited Boleapota and Boera, and then 1 away for Murry Island to find that the Rev. Mr and Mrs Macfarlane had left the morning of tbe day we arrived. We followed on to Thursday Mr Macfarlane joined us, and we visited Matuai, Tanau, and Saibai, ' and were pleased with what we saw.” , . • i’i • ..
