The Gazette last night contains the resignation by Judge Ward of his oppoint ments as District Judge of Toko- I mairiro and Clntha; and the appoint- j ment of G. W. Harvey, Esq., to be "' District Judge for the District of Western Otago. Also G. I. Watt, Esq'., to be Resident Magistrate for Oamaru, with jurisdiction to .£IOO. A petition praying for a further inquiry into the case of Connor, recently ] convicted of attempt to poison Mr Wm. ' Light, was presented this morning. It j was signed by dver 1100 persons. A new bi-weekly paper, called the j Waipawa .Mail will b» started at Wai- ' pawa, Hawke's Bay, in aVrnt a,fortnight, by Mr Hugh Thompson the present editor of the Wellington Even-, ing Chronicle.
