A meeting of the Hospital Committee will be held this evening at the Council Chambers, at 8 o’clock, when the question of the tenders for the new building will be decided. The following resolutions were carried unanimously at a crowded public meeting held in Greymoulh last evening : (1.) “ That tills meeting urge upon the Government the necessity of constructing, without delay, a line of railway to connect the East and West Coasts of this island by the shortest and best route, and which will most promote the development of the resources of the country.” (2.) “ That in the opinion of this meeting the southern route by Haast Pass, proposed by the H okitika Railway Committee, would not meet any of the conditions above mentioned, it being of enormous length, and traversing a line of country which would necessitate a cost quite beyond the means of the colony at the present time, and would be utterly useless to this portion of the colony.” (3.) “That all evidence goes to prove that the best and most profitable line would be by one or other of the routes by way of the Grey Valley, to connect with the North Canterbury lines.” J The monthly inspection parade of the Rifle Volunteers, will be held to-morrow evening, at the room adjoining Mr Finlayson s, in Seddon street, and formerly known as the Bowling Alley.
