[press agency.] Wellington, July 30. The Conference of municipal delegates met this afternoon. On the motion ot Mr Blandish it was carried, —‘‘That in the opinion of this Conference, Government is not warranted in making any deductions since Ist January last for maintenance of euher hospitals or charitable in.giinfcions from subsidies granted by Parliament by way of endowment to municipalities; and that Mess:a Moorhouse, Sutton, and Erect interview the Government on the subject with the view of ascertaining whether they are prepaied to pay over such subsidies in full.”
Mr Charters moved, and it was carried—“ That the expenses of the Conference be borne by all those boroughs which are represented thereat in propci fcion to population.” The Conference then commenced to go through the Municipal Co.poralion Act, 1876, clause by clause, and adjourned at 4.30. In future they sit from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Port Chalmers, July 30. The eldest son of Mr J. P. Maitland, Chief Commissioner of Crown Lauds in Otago, was thrown from his horse and suffered seveie contusions on the head but no serious results are anticipated.
