"RORY OF THE HILLS" AND THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
[TO THE EDITOR;]
Oh ! wad some power the giftie gie US, To see oursels as others se'e us.—HtißN& Slß—rt miirht- improve our tiveul>ilit.i.'a and benefit the ratepayers of Kumara, at least fmm what I can gather from the grand flourish of wit just displayed by »B»ry «>f the Hills,'' am!, mixed with his " critique " upon senatorial wisdom, is enough to stir the Coldest heart among the Councillors in endeavours to rxcel in the very neces-* a-iry quality for them of looking—and, I may add, .efore they take the leap into legislation on local matters. Sir, 1 was both edified and amused by the terse and pithy remarks emanating from the refulgent brain of " Rory of the Hills." Surely he must v have, been born under a lucky star, to* have such overpoW.-iing wisdom ; 'tig almost enough to make the Council, t<i a man, indulge in what is vulgarly Called a " vomit," but which " Medicus" would, in move refined language, call au emetic. The brain so bursting with its own self-satisfied importance should he a leader in the land, theu it would soon emerge from the rttck, and find its own level.— (Query, Which would it he, top or bottom 1) Burns' paragraph Would then he exemplified-, If " Rot'y of" the Hiils" will only stand to represent the burghesses, he will have it sodn proved, and I hope to his and the public satisfaction. The old saying, " 'Tw easy to pick holes, but tis hard to mend them" would be a very good maxim for " Rory " to lay in his heart, and I am sure the brilliancy of his intellect would grasp its meaning. When next he indulges in criti--oitiiu upon the Council, let him stick to the truth 5 but it is quite true that "Pools rush in where angels fear to tread," I will now conclude hy a short stanzi composed, not by By ion, nor" Burns, embodying-advice fco Council* lors: When nest in solemn conclave inet, Each bring a box of pills ; For if yon dont, you're sure to get H— from " Rory of the Hills." I am, <fec, Ratepayer, Kuruara, July 17th.
