[to the EDUCE,*] ‘, Sir —-Mr Palboner in his lecture a few nights ago, amongst several sweeping condemnations, designated novel readers as a useless class of society. lam sorry that no one in, this town has as yet attempted to combat Mr' Falconer’s dictum; "but rather than let it appear that the-lecturer’s opinions are endorsed by the residents in the town, I ntake on myself the task of saying a word in defence of novel readers from this unwarranted attack upon them.
