Mr S. T. George will address the electors at the Theatre Royal, this evening ; and a> the conclusion of his address, Mr S. Croumbie-Brown will also lay his views before the meeting. Mr Fitz Gerald is holding meetings at Goldaborough and Stafford Town to-night.

The Warden for the district M. Price, Esq., R.M., has notified that under the 92nd clause of the “ Goldsfields Regulalations, 1878,” all claims, &c., will be protected on Tuesday and Wednesday next.

Mr Fitz Gerald addressed a crowded meeting at Dillman’s Town last night, receiving a unanimous vote of confidence. Mr George at the termination of MrFitz Gerald’s meeting at Dillman’s Town last evening, addressed the electors, ho being introduced by His Worship the Mayor. He was very favorably received, and a resolution was carried unanimously in his favor. As he will address the electors in the Theatre Royal this evening, his speech to-night will appear in Monday’s issue.

A meeting of Mr Fitz Gerald’s Committee will be held at Blake’s Empire hotel tliis evening.

The Rev. Mr Connor, of Otago, will preach at the Presbyterian Church, tomorrow evening. -

Mr S. Croumbie-Brown, one of the candidates for the representation of the Hokitika electorate in the House of Representatives in the room of Mr Button, resigned, has been appointed editor of the Hokitika Star. This will not, we are given to understand, alter his intentions so far as contesting the election is concerned.

The monthly inspection of the local Rifles was held by Lieut. Spence, last evening, at the Public Hall. There was a very small muster, owing no doubt to the different meetings being held in connection with the forthcoming election.

An undertaking of more than ordinary interest to this district is now being carried out between the Teremakau and Larrikins, in the form of a tail-race, the total length of which when finished will be 2000 feet. It is expected that sluicing in connection therewith will be commenced in about two months. The proprietors of this—Messrs Biake, Oornfoot, Brown, an I oalien—must still have some faith in v the future of Kumara.

It will be seen from our telegrams that the Australian cricketers are playing an extra match to those contained in their programme, viz., against the County of Middlesex.

D. Davidson and Co., in order to meet the requirements of the public of Kumara and surrounding districts, have come to the determination of still further reducing the prices of their present large stock of gener;d drapery, clothing, boots and shoes.
