TO THE ELECTORS OF THE ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF HOKITIKA. \J large number of the Electors, and after giving the political situation the fullest consideration, I have decided to present myself as a candidate for your suffrages. During the ensuing week I will address you at the various contres of population within the district. T will then fully explain my political views. In the meantime I will only say that, while prepared to give the policy enunciated by Sir George Grey, a general support, I will not pledge myself (if elected) to blindly follow up any particular leaders, but wiil consider upon its merits every measure introduced into the House—whether by the Government, by the Opposition, or by independent members. On two points, however, I am prepared to declare myself. Whether in the House or out of it, I shall oppose any factious or sectarian attempt to interfere with THE EDUCATION ACT AS IT IS, And I will give to every measure calculated to develop, by the expenditure of public money, THE ENORMOUS MINERAL RESOURCES OF THE DISTRICT, my hearty and strenuous support.
