I Lave the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your telegram conveying requisition asking me to become a candidate for the representation of the district of Hokitika in the General Assembly. In reply, I have to thank you for the' confidence you have expressed, and recognising the honor of representing so important a part of the community in Parliament, I have much pleasure in acceding to your request, with the assurance that, if elected, the interests of the constituency shall always have my best consideration. I shall take the opportunity of publishing in a day or two an address conveying the outline of my opinions on the various questions of policy occupying at the present time the attention of the colony. Immediately upon the writ being issued, I shall visit the constituency, when I shall explain my views at length.
