BRITISH VOLUNTEERS.

[From the Londonderry Sentinel.] My dear old flag of England, " Thy bosom's still unfurled, Thy glory of our Empire, A terror to the world ; Thy strength the God of Battles, Now as in other years — Who dare oppose the English Rose And British Volunteers 1 CHORUS. Tho' the Lion seems to slumber, The Rose shall never yield ; If rous'd, with mighty thunder He'll sweep the battlefield. Too long the Lion slumbered, Too liberal was his hand, Too long his statesmen bartered The rights of God and man. E'en yet he needs no conscript To exienuate his fears ; The Union Jack will ne'er fallback, Nor British Volunteers. Tho' the Lion, &c. Thy children, three in number, One noble spirit move ; The foe must bow before thee, As sure as God is love. Review the heights of Alma, Trafalgar, and Algiers— Who dare oppose the English Rose And British Volunteers Tho' the Lion, &c. I hear Old England saying, We've .gallant hearts and gold ; Our flag that waves triumphant Shall never be controlled ; The foe who'd dare oppose us Shall tell with bitter tears The gallant sight, the matchless might, Of British Volunteers. Tho' the Lion, <fec. I hear auld Scotland sounding Her pipes wi' Highland yell, Her manly hearts responding— The Czar's departing knell. Her swords that waved in glory Owre sires in ither years Will teach the Czar nae mair tae war Wi' Scottish Volunteers. Tho' the Lion, &c. Here go the sons of Erin, The last but not the least, In glory's van the foremost, At danger's post the best. Behold the flag of William ! Hurrah ! three British cheers ! Two hundred thousand loyal men— All Erin's Volunteers. For tho' we seem to slumber, If roused, t'will soon be shown We'll clear the way, by land and sea, For the altar and the throne.
