The steamer Ringarooma struck thrice, drawing 15ft Gin, when coming in to-day. Auckland, June 14, An unseemly squabble is going oh over the possesion of the building occupied bv the Grammer School on the Improvement Comraisoners property. The question at issue is whether sufficient notice of the termination, of the tenancy has been given. The Improvement Commissioners asserted their right by putting iu the bailiffs j the headmaster took advantage of the temporary absence of one of the bailiffs, barricaded him out, and he ! d possesion of the building. The Mayor this morning, as one of the Grammar School Governors, having authorised the bursting of the ; door, the Commisoners’ bailiff re-entered and now occupies the building. Mr Cox addressed his constituents at Hamlin last night, and announced that he had sent his resignation to the. Speaker in consequence of ill health. A vote, regretting the cause of bis resignation and thanks foi his services, was passed with one disientient. ’ Wellington, June 14. The Gazete notifies that the Govitnor lias cancelled the following goldmining leases :—Ten acres at Guardian Plat, Totara, held by F. Dermott; and ten acres, Sailors Gully/ Totara, held by John Allen. , The Gazette to-dav notifies his Excellency’s provisional acceptance of fhb nomination, by the Consul-General of France in Sydney, of P. 0. The Tuapeka Council yesterday appointed Mr Horace Bastings, the chairman, to represent the Council at the Conference to„he held at Wellington. Favorable replies have been received from a number of Counties to the proposal made by the Tuapeka Council to ask the Government to place all the Reserves under the charge of Counties. DuNEDtN. June 15. The Bruce Herald states that Mr Henry Clarke, of Milton, will probably offer himself as a candidate for the representation of- the Taieri district.
