During the ensuing week I will address you at the various centres of population within the district. I will then fully explain my political views. In the meantime I will only say that, while prepared to give the policy enunciated by Sir George Grey, a general (support, I will iaot pledge myself (if to 'blindly follow up any particular leaders, but will consider upon its merits every measure introduced into ithe House—whether by the Government, by the Opposition, or by independent members. On two points, however, I am prepared to declare myself. Whether in the House or out- of it, I shall oppose ■any factious or sectarian attempt to interfere with THE EDITCATION ACT AS IT IS, And I will give to every measure calculated to develop, by the expenditure of public money, THE ENORMOUS MINERAL RESOURCES OF THE DISTRICT* any hearty and strenuous support.
