. Constantinople, May 13. The Turkish Government maintain that the Treaty of Stefano stipulates for the surrender of Shumla and Varna fortresses to Bulgaria, not Russia. (Undated). The Russian army remain at San Stefano, and the British squadron at Constantinople. The intensity of feeling between the Porte and the Russian commander-in-chief, respecting the evacuation of the fortress, is increasing.

Melbourne, May 20. The Cable Conference decided to adopt Glovers recommendation that the second cable between Singapore and Port Darwin, should avoid ihe Java land line. The subsidy to the Cable Company is not to exceed £32,4000, for not more than 20 years. Mr Wilson, the Tasmanian representative, attaches to his signature a memo regretting the Conference, and declining to entertain the suggestion that the cable connecting Tasmnnia and New Zealand, should be treated as part of a general scheme of telegraphic communication with Europe.
