LIKES ON A VIRGIN.
I By Nospur. I know a virgin with blue eyes And siniling face, who nDver sighs, But with a modest grace she trieß To captivate Each comely youth she deems would prize The marriage state. She wears a mass of golden hair, Set round with gems both rich and rare, A lily, too, is oft seen there This beauty's flower Is token that she longs to share The lover's bower. We know the sun at early morn Tinges rosette hue shrub and thorn, But Mary's cheeks would laugh to scorn Its brightest show, For at her blush through man is born A warmer glow. Her tapered fingers, slender waist, Swan-like neck, and snowy breast, Would well become a noble's crest, And cornet too ; . Mary, thy sails unfurl in haste, Thy goal 's in view. Let strong ambition o'er life's wave Thee onward bear—be not a slave To poverty, a living grave It is to all. The plebian spurn, however brave The, bride would call.
Ah ! Well may'at thou aspire to fame ; For honour now is but a name ; How few like thee, for very shame, Would ever daro Their virgin innocence to claim ? So have a care.
