Christchurch, May 13. Messrs Inglis and Saunders, rival candidates for the. representation of Cheviot in the Assembly, addressed the electors at Wakariri. A vote of confidence in Inglis was proposed and seconded ; then an ammendrnent thankinoInglis for his address, but stating that no candidate was acceptable to the district unless he could prove his independence of the squatters interests. This could not be seconded although about fifty persons were present, the proposer of the ammendrnent being the only qualified elector in the room. This is due to the fact that the list of ratepayers sent in to the Registration officer last ye ir was not signed by the Chairman of the Road Board, as re. quired by the Act. About fifty persons were thus disfranchised. The resolution in favour of Inglis was carried.
