Wellington, April 29. The Colonial Insurance Company has appointed the Bank of New Zealand as its bankers for the Colony.
April 30. Sir Wm. Fitzherbert, Speaker of the House of Representatives, addressed the electors of Upper Hutt last night. He denied that there was any foundation for the statements going about that he intended to head a new party, and said that there was no political significance to be attached to the meeting. He strongly condemned the action of the people of the colony iu renouncing Provincialism for some thing much inferior. The hopes held out that the change would be beneficial had not been realised. Previously they had some knowledge of how they were governed, but now, throughout the length of the colony, the Qoverment was nothing but a mystery. Replying to questions, he said he was opposed ro promiscuous manhood suffrage! he would not pledge himself to support this or that man in Parliament, but would always act as conscience dictated. A unanimous vote of confidence was passed.
