THE TIMES EDITOR.
Mr Chenary, the new editor of the London Times, is a man about 51 years old. He was born at Barbadoes, educated at Eton and r), it nbridge, and was afterwards called U the bir at Lincoln's Inn. He is reported, however, never to have practised; he has given himself up to letters, s especially to Oriental literature, in which he has become an authority He has been pi-ofessnr of Arabic at Oxford, and it was in consequence of his, researches, in this department of literature that he received honors' from two different quarters; from the late Sultan who in . 1869 nomin tted him a member of the Order of Mejidie, and from the church,--; in whosn behalf he was made a member of the Old Testament Company of the' Bible Kevisei-s. Itw understood that Mr Walter will intervene in the political diiectionof the leading journal more actively than he did during Mr Delane's regime. Mi-Chenary, who is somewhat ofarechi.se, and not"'at all the kind of mm the public would have supposed best suited for the post, will continue his Biblical labours. Mi' Delane has letired upon a handsome pension, and . hti advice will still be available oh important occasions.
