Wellington, April 18. In the Supreme Court this day an important decision was given in a Westport mining case. Mr Seaton, a shareholder in the Halcyon Quartz Mining Company appealed against the judgment of the Court. After agreement the appeal was upheld and the Court below was ordered to enter up judgment for defendant insisted of plaintiff'. The Supreme Court upheld the appeal on the ground that after the lapse of 21 days calls could not be sued for. Nelson, April 18. Sir George Grey addressed a crowded meeting at the Provincial Hall last night, when the substance of the speech was the same as delivered in Wellington and elsewhere. At the close of the meeting a vote of confidence was proposed and carried nem. com. amidst most enthusiastic and prolonged cheering. Dunedin, April 18. A writ for £2OO damages was yesterday served on the proprietors of the Daily Times at. the instance of Mr C. E. Haughton, for an alleged libel. The matters complained of, it is stated, were contained in a leading article published in the Times of March 15th, and in a letter signed “ Morality,” which appeared in last Tuesday’s issue of the same journal. M'Laren, the self-constituted leader of working mrn’a demonstrations, was charged yesterday with riotous behaviour, aud drunkenness. He was released on bail on promise to clear out to Victoria on Sunday next. Mr J, B. Bradshaw reports the following :—Bank of New Zealand, £24 ss; Colonial Bank, £2 11s 6d; National Bank, £3 15s ; Union Insurance, 15s ; Standard Insurance, £1 3s; National Insurance, £1 10s; New Zealand Shipping, £3 15s; Guthrie and Larnach’s, £2 7s 6d.
