Auckland, April 17. Messrs Lusk and Hamlin, M.H.R. have addressed their constituents. Both dissented from Sir George Grey regarding the extension of the franchise, as at present any man who owned anything more than a carpet bag had a vote. Mr Lusk strongly opposed a tax on land though he approved of a tax on income l , if the income were derived from land. The Acreage Tax was untair. He believed if Sir George Grey persisted in advocating these measures he would snap the foundation of his popularity. Such vindictive legislation would be found to be a mistake. Mr Lusk said that after consideration he had decided to resign his seat. .Votes of confidence in Messrs Lusk -and Hamlin were passed.
