THE ROYAL MARRIAGE.
Our Gracious Sovereign had the satisfaction, oil Sunday\of hearing of the marriage of her eldest granddaughter^Priiicesg; Charlotte off Gm-v many, to her rektivejhe Grand Duke of ,Saxe-Meiningen. The Queen, although still in the .prime i*f life, has a large uurhber of,grandchildren, wnoare', now growing.up to, a. marriageable age, and tWj3«i'enions the other day is bat the oomuiencenient of a' new series .'of royal marriages. The young princess lust mamed'lias" nil ili{>. advantages that may spring froin the,.blood of the royal imd.iwperjal of England and dfermSfly:*- hWalso the rare for a princess, of the, ofid.oAu&sjic felicity' for' two, generations on botli sides. The life of the Prince. •06h36 l rt; J by Mr, Martin, has revealed what an admirable training the'PWnces* Royal of England received, from her august paren's; It is .quite difficult for the reader''to realise that he is perusing the letters,,of r-iyalty, when he finds continued references to " Vick'ey " and "Ow Pussy," alluding to the Princess Victoria. Like her lieloved mother she was fortunate in a marriage that was a love match, as well as one that befitted her high position, and there-is every reason to believe; that her daughter has followed in her j footsteps. The. Duke of Meiningen is not a great potentate, lint he belongs to the Coburg family, whose virtues have made it respected' throughout Europe. The Princess Royal had won the love of all England before her marriage, and snn:e she has contributed not a little to make the English name respected in Germany. She is as much beloved in Germany .as;the Princess of Wales is in England, and her influence may yet be of great value in maintaining the good feeling that at present exists between these two great nations. It was only fitting that, her brother, the Prince of Wales, should be present at his eldest niece's marriage, in spite of the threatening aspect of European affairs. With.him would go forth the united feeling of all faithful subjects of H-er Majesty, in wishing every happiness to. the chafmijig daughter of our Royal house. - • -
