Christchurch, March 15.

Sir George Grey arrived at Christchurch station at 5.45. Very few people were on the platform, but those present cheered vociferously. He was accompanied by Mr Fisher, Postmaster. General, and Mr William Mitchell, Private Secretary, He was driven in a drag and four to the Commercial Hotel. He will address the citizens at the Oddfellows’ Hall at half past 7 tomorrow (Saturday). Wheat, firm at ss; oats, 3s to 3s 3d ; barley, 4s 6d to ss; flour, £l3 to £l4; bran, £4 10a; sharps, £5 10s; cheese, 6|d; very little grain is selling and business is unsettled. Customs duties collected from the 31st December to date amount to £58,703 14s Bd. The duty collected to-day was £4OBB 4s lid, £2148 of which which was paid by Messrs P Cunningham and Co. Wellington, March 15, A telegram has been received announcing that the Alhambra left Melbourne on Wednesday, with a large quantity of salmon ova, which is ap- ! parehtly in good condition. Christchurch, March 16. The body of the young girl found drowned has been identified as that of a domestic. The whole thing is considered very mysterious. An address was presented to Sir George Grey this morning by the Selwyn Borough Council. He will receive several deputations on Monday. This evening he will address a public meeting at the Oddfellows’ Hall.
