MINING REGULATIONS UNDER "THE MINES ACT, 1877."
Any person discovering new gold working, and being desirous of obtainlog an increased area thereon shall imarkfepff a prospecting claim, as provided in Regulation 11, and shall immediately report such discovery with full particulars to the Warden, and the .ground so marked off shall be protected until the Warden shall have finally; refused or granted the claim; but the Warden may, if he thank fit, refrain :from granting'or refusiug such .claim until thegroundshallhave beenvisited by himself or by anyone appointed by him. Notices of all prospecting claims .granted, with full particulars of locality, yield of gold, aud description of workings, shall be posted by the Warden on ithe outside of his office for public information. It shall not be lawful for the Warden ■to grant a prospecting claim for any aiew discovery at a less distance than <two miles from any previously existing workings in alluvial ground, nor to ; giant a prospecting claim for any new •discovery of a.quartz leef at a less dis. lance than half a mile from any jpreviously existing quartz workings. Every prospecting claim shall, after feeing marked, be held by one man remaining on the ground during working {hours until the application is-deak with, sandj if granted, the claim mußt, unless 'by special permission of the Warden, 'be fully occupied within seven days from the date 'Of grant. The Warden may, if he think fit, rgipant a prospecting claim to the actual •discoverer of new gold workings conjointly with persons who have assisted them in prospecting either with conttibutipna or otherwise, or with other persons who may be nominated by the actual discoverers, although the said persons may not have been on the :grdnnd prior to (the granting thereof. The Warden may, upon the application of any persons forming a party of 4tt)t less than font, grant protection for &ot inore • than three months for a prospecting area " at a distance of not tessthan two miles from any existing workings itt alluvial ground, or in the «case of quartz workings of not less than Jbalf a mile from any existing quartz workings rPrpyided in no case shall .anysuch prospecting area be granted within half a mile of any other such jP?ospertpng r .area. Provided further thatv'euoh protectioivshall only xsontinue in force until gold is struck, in which -case the discovery shall be reported, holders are required by the Warden to mark a prospecting claim, in either of which cases a prospecting •claim,'shall be marked and applied for as provided in,Regulation 11. and ¥., and 35rotec|K)n sshall therupon cease as to the remainder oi such prospecting .area. ■ It shall be lawful for -the Warden to senew from time to time the protection for a prospecting area. Provided that such renewed protection shall not be jgran<jed{for more than three months at .any time..
Every prospecting area shall be continuoasly worked by at least t\yo men rtdminjftlie .entire peiiod of occupancy.
