The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1878.
Advantage was taken to-day of the presence in Kumara of the PostmasterGeneral to bring under his notice several grievances connected with his Department, under which it is considered that we labor. The minor ones, such, for instance, as the unnecessary delay in the delivery of the Greymouth mails, and the want of a letter-carrier, will doubtless at once be remedied; but we would urge upon the attention of Mr Fisher the more important consideration of providing for two mails daily from Greymouth and Hokitika respectively. More than adequate opportunities are afforded by the Greymouth and Kumara Tramway Company and the coaches running between this and Hokitika, and it cannot be questioned for one moment that any slight extra expense that might be incurred by extending postal facilities in the direction indicated, would be more than compensated for by the vastly increased convenience to the public. We hope Mr Fisher will give this matter his immediate consideration and that, even should he meet with opposition or hindrance from any servant of the Department in Hokitika who may choose to impede postal communication with Kumara, he may see his way to sweep the cobweb aside—unceremoniously if need be.
