TO PRESS AGENCY. Melbourne, February 19. The combined team arrived in excellent health. It is stated the trip was a low financial success. Sydney, February 19. The Government of New South Wales have agreed to a conference on the duplicate cable question. Arrived—City of Sydney. Auckland, February 20. The Rotorua, which left Sydney on the 13th, brings the following iten* of intelligence telegraphed to Sydney:—. A special cablegram to the Sydney Morning Herald states that the Porte refused a firman to allow the British fleet to remain at Stamboul, on the ground that should such be given the Russians would occupy the city. The armistice is terminable in three days, and it is rumored that an alliance between Turkey and Russia has been arrived at, one condition being that the latter assumes the protectorate. The steamer Metropolis was wrecked on the coast of Carolina, and 100 lives were lost.
Russia suggested a Conference at Brussels or Lausanne. There has been a disastrdits fire at Tientsin (China), with the loss of 2000 lives.
