The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 184, 1878.
From our telegraphic columns it will be seen that Sir George Grey, accompanied by the Hon. Mr Maeandrew and Mr Fisher, starts to-day from Wellington in the Hinemoa for the West coast of this island; and consequently he will be in Kumara about the end of t.hia ; or beginning of next, week. The Borough Council, we are awaye, have appointed a Committee of their number to make arrangements for the reception of the Premier, and have also voted a sum of money for the like purpose. A spasmodic amount of activity has to this extent been shown; but as to what the Committee have done, or what manner of reception it is intended to proffer the Ministerial party, the public are as much in the dark as—as the members of the Committee themselves. Whatever is to be done must now be done quickly; and we trust it will not have to be said, after our distinguished visitors have departed, that Kumara lagged behind the sister-municipalities in the display of hospitality. Were there Other corporate bodies within • the borough we would ask. them to follow the example of Greymouth, and “ improve the occasion.” In the absence of such we look to the Council to submit a programme which, there is not the slightest doubt, will receive at the hands of the public the cordial support that theamportance of the occasion demands.
