AN APPEAL TO THE CHARITABLE.
[to the editor.] Sir—Haviog noticed the willingness of the lady and gentlemen amateurs of Kumara to give their services to any cause that tends to temporarily relieve those who through accident require from the public a helping hand, you will probably allow me through your columns, to draw the attention of the public to the case of the widow and children of the late Mr Gibbins. It will be rememberer) that the sad and fatal accident that took place a few months ago on Larrikin’s Terrace not only deprived this woman of her husband, but it also left her and her ten children utterly unprovided for ■ and how they have since managed to subsist is ,a mystery to the uninitiated.. The urgency of this case not being generally known is my reason for having brought it before the public, in the hope that some of the humane people of Kumara will come forward and see if something in the way of an amateur dramatic entertainment cannot be given to, as far as possible, relieve this family of its present wants.—l am, 'ike., A Neighbour. Kumara, February 13, 1876. [We willingly insert this appeal; bat, while not wishing to throw cold water upon our correspondent’s proposal, would suggest that this, in addition to anything else that may be done, is eminently a case for the Ladies Benevolent Society,— Ed. K. T.]
