MINING REGULATIONS UNDER "THE MINES ACT, 1877."
Any person discovering new gold working, and being desirous of obtaining an increased 'area thereon shall mark off a prospecting claim, as provided in Regulation 11, and shall immediately report such discovery witk full particulars to the Warden, and the, ground, so marked off shall be protected until-the Warden shall have finally re- i fused or granted the claim ; but* the I Warden may, if he think tit, refrain ! from granting or refusing such claim , until th>- ground shal I have been visited bv ' himself or by anyone app-in ted l>y liini. j Notices «>f all p»osp»cMrig claims | granted, with fml particulars of locality, ' yield of gold, and description of work- | ings, shall l>e posted by the Warden on i the outside of kis offic- for public infor- j (nation. J It shall not be lawful f >r the Warden j to grant a prospecting claim for any ; new discovery at a less distance than '■ two miles from any previously existing | workings in alluvial ground, nor to I grant a prospecting claim for any new. I discovery of a quartz reef at a less dis. ! tance than half a mile from any > previously existing quartz workings. 1 Every prospecting claim shall, after j being marked, be held by one man re- j maining on the ground during working hours until the application is dealt with, f and, if granted, the claim must, unless j by special permission of the Warden, '\ be fully occupied within seven days from the date of grant. ■■' ■ ■ I The Warden may, if he think;-fit, ' grant a prospecting claim to the actual*j discoverer of new told workings "• con- 5 ; jointly with persons who Have assisted] them in prospecting either with contri- ! bntions or otherwise, or with'other sons who may be nominated, by the 1 actual discoverers, although the said ; persons may not have been, on the ground prior to the granting thereof. The Warden may, upon the application of any persons forming a parity of not less than four, grant protection for not more than three months ■■ for a ( pros| ecting area "ata distance of not: less than two miles from any existing workings in alluvial ground, or in the case of quartz workings of not less than half a mile from any existing quartz workings: Provided in no ca?e shall any such prospecting area be granted within half a mile of any other such prospecting area. Provided furher"j that such protection shall only conitiue j in force until gold is struck, in whic}h : j case the discovery shall be reported, or until the holders are required by the, Warden to mark a prospecting claim, in either of which cases a prospfciin«claim shall be marked and applied for as .provided in Regulation IT. and V., .and 'protection shall therupon cea-e as to "the remainder or such prospecting area. It shall be lawful for the Warden to renew from, time to tim« the protecion for a prospecting area.
