BOROUGH COUNCIL.

I Friday, January 25. Council met at2 "p.m. Present; His Worship, the Mayor, Councillors Ancher, Bulstrode, Campbell; Hanna, and Pearn. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. 'The 'outward and inward correspond deuce was read. It wa« moved ly the Mayor, and seconded by Cr. Ancher "That the Council fix the amount of £4 per chain as the contribution feo be paid hv the owner's or oc-upiers of sections towards the cost of footpaths, and that a byelaw.be made to that effect." Cr. Pearn mov< j d us an amendment " That the footpaths be made by the Bor.mgh without any special charge on the section-holders." Cr. Bulstrode seconded the amendment. Upon a division them voted for the amendment Crs Hanna, Bulstrode, Haunan, and Pe«rn; against, the Mayor, Crs Campbell, George, and Auchei\ The voting being equal, the Mayor gave his casting vote against the amendment, and the original motion was put put and carried. It wtn tliPh moved by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Ancher, and carried.— "That tenders be called for forming Main street and Seddon street with footpaths in accordance with the plan and specifications prepared by the Surveyor." A report from the Finance Committee was read, recommending that application he made to all the banks re the Borough accounts. On the motion- of Cr. Hannan, seconded by Or. Ancher, the report was adopted, and it was also resolved to obtain the opiuion of the solicitor as to the amount oE overdraft to which the Council is entitled. Accounts to the amount of £2lB 6s 8d were passed for payment. After transacting some iuiportnntt routine business, the Council adjourned.
