The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. THURSDAY, JANUARY 24, 1878.

We are to-day in a position to announce that the Premier, Sir George Grey, with Mr Macandrew, Minister of Lands, will -visit Kumara about the third week in February. His Worship the Mayor last night received a telegram to that -effect, -which we publish in another column. Sir George Grey’s ready and cordial response to the invitation extended to him by the burgesses of Kumara ought to be hailed by .them as an augury that the. Government is not unmindful of the existence of this somewhat remote portion of the colony; and that whatever disadvantages we may labor under will receive due consideration and attention. But while we look forward to benefits likely to accrue to us from the visit of these distinguished members of the Cabinet, we ■must not forget our own duties as hosts. Sir George Grey and Mr Macandrew may prove to be, as far as lies in their power, our benefactors but they will also lie our guests, and we feel assured that the people of Kumara will extend to them a hospitalitv as -generous as it is spontaneous. Under -the circumstances we cannot do better than repeat the advice given a week or two ago, namely that a strong committee should at once be formed, to be divided into sub-committees—one charged with the duty of making arrangements for cordially and fitly extending to Sir George Grey the hospitality of the district; the other with the important task of gathering data npop which to base our claims upon the consideration

and assistance of his Government. When we tendered this advice it was a matter of some uncertainty whether the West Coast would be favored with a Ministerial visjt; but now that all doubt on the point is at rest, the Mayor should lose no time in convening the burgesses together to decide the form ivhich the public reception of but' visitors shall take.
