The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. TUESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1878.

With to-day's issue we publish a Supplement, containing the news brought by the San Francisco Mail, and telegraphed • from Auckland. Telegrams for the Australian Colonies, per Ringarooma, via Bluff, will be received at Kumara Telegraph Office, up till 10a.m. to-morrow, Thursday 24th instant. It will be seen from an advt. in another column that on Monday evening next Thompsons's Great Southern Diorama of j the American War, will open at the I Theatre Royal. In connection with this exhibition there is, according to the proprietor's announcement, "a magnificent distribution of costly gifts every evening." It will not be forgotten that Mr and Mrs Morton Tavares commence a short season at the Theatre Royal this evening. The performance is to begin with the comedy of "The Happy Pair," to be followed the quarrel scene from the "School for Scandal," the closet scene from "Hamlet, concluding with the laughable sketch of "The Bashful Cousin." I The reputation of these talented artistes is world-wide, and that they still maintain it is evident from the flattering critiques that have appeared upon their latest performances. At Westport, from which place Mr and Mrs.Tavares, have, just arrived the Star said:—"The entertainments presented, are perfectly unexceptionable to the most fastidious, and are worthy hearty commendation. Nothing to excel them is .likely to be. presented away from the theatres of large cities." A considerable sum of money was paid over last night at' Mr Gilbert Stewart's Hotel im connection with the settling on Stewart and Bulstrode's Sweep on the Two-Year-Old stakes. Amongst others the ■second and third prizes were paid over, and the sacrifices to Bacchus usual upon such occasions followed. One of our West Coast morning con- j temporaries in publislung. important wartelegrams that had previously appeared in these columns is good enough to refer to us j as "that specially favored"journal, the! Ktjmara Times." We wish it were in our j power to.say "you're another." ~
