MASONIC INSTALLATION.
The imposing ceremony of installing the Worshipful Master and officers of the Lazar Lodge, No. 1689, E.C. took place in the Public Hall, yesterday afternoon, the.iustalling officer being the venerable R.W.D.G.M. Bro. Lazar, who came from Hokitika specially for the occasion. There was a full attendance of the members of the lodge, and amongst the visiting brethren were, the W.D.D.G.M. Bevan, W.D.D.G-C. Watkins, W.D.D.D.G. Hyams, and Pastmasters James Kerr, James Wylde, and John May. The ceremony was conducted with, all the solemnity and impressiveness suited to the occasion, the piesence of so many old and distinguished masons being a guarantee that the grand ritual of the Order would be earned out in its integrity. The officersiustalled were:—Bro. E. Ancher, W.M. (second term of office); Bro. Furby, S.W.; Bro. U. J, Seddon, J. W.; Bro. T. Connell, Treasurer; Bro. W. Nicholson; Hon. Sec.; Bro. ll.'Burger, S.D.; Bro. J. J. Williams, J.D.; Bros, Charles Peters and W. S. Hanna, Stewards ; Bro. Brown, 1.G.; Bro. J. Anderson, Tyler, In. the evening, the members of the Lodge and the visiting brethren sat down to a sumptuous banquet in the Public Hall, the W.M. Bro. Ancher in the chair, and the S.W. in the vicechair. Full justice having been done to the good things provided by the caterer, Mr Rohloff, the usual loyal and craft toasts were drunk with enthusiasm, and a most enjoyable evening was spent, the Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master Lazar contributing his full share to the general hilarity. Speeches and songs were kept .up with,spirit until about la.m., when the company dispersed with mutual good-feelihg, and phasant anticipations of equally happy re-unions upon similar occasions in time to come. .
