Sir James McMahon has resigned his seat for West;Melbourne.in favor of Mr Francis, whose election is certain, The Governor has been presented with an address by. the residents of Hamilton, expressive of indignation at the illegal acts of the Ministry. The Governor defended his assent to." the dismissals. He said he was bound to follow the advice of- his responsible advisers in local matters, which were outside the prerogative of the Crown.
The Government intend to carry on the County Courts by officials without salaries.
