I In all communities there is always a certain amount of distress, which if not apparent to the casual observer is none the less real. The larger the population, the greater the proportion, of cases needing the assistance of those who are in a position to give it. In KLnoiara there are and always will, be some who are needing such aid, and although the most prominent cases have heeii met by liberal subscriptions, yet it may sometimes happen *-that a large sum is raised for one whilst many as deserving or perhaps more so, whose • distress-is not publicly known, are left in che cold. the. object of temporarily relieving or putting them in a position of earning a livelihood, a few ladies have decided to form a Benevolent Society. The district will be : systematically cauvassed, and everyone I will beexpected to subscribe one shilling I per month. The Society consider that | with the small sura named from all, they will be in a position to help the needy by, gifts of provisions, and clothing, or by supplying sewing machines, mangles, or other appliances (the cost of which is to be repaid by instalments when the parties are able). No money will be giyen, but orders will be granted on. the stores in rotation for the articles required.. There will be no distinction of creed, or nation, nor of who are really needing help will be attended to. Surely with such recommendations, the public will cheerfully give the small •subscription asked, and everyone will .wish the Society the success it sotichly merits.
