The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. MONDAY, JANUARY 14, 1878.

On Saturday we published a report of the proceedings at the public meeting held in the Theatre Royal on the previous evening for the purpose of'urging upon the Government the necessity of immediately proceeding with the construction of a bridge over the Teremakau river. It is needless to say that the resolutions were carried con amore • and also one inviting Sir George Grey and any members of the Government who may accompany him on his intended visit to the Coast, to come to Kamara. I "We have not the slightest doubt that the Premier will avail himself of the invitation; will be hospitably entertained by the people of the district; and that they will greatly benefit by the personal knowledge that Sir George will obtain as to our requirements—which, by the way, are not limited to the Teremakau bridge, urgent though the necessity of proceeding with that important work be. It will not do, however, to rest satisfied with merely having forwarded the invitation. The Premier must perforce be rapid in his movements; and if we lie on our oars, we may suddenly be awakened to the fact that our guest is at our doors betore any preparations have been made to receive him. A strong committee should at once be formed, to be divided into sub-com-mittees—one charged with the duty of making arrangements for cordially and fitly extending to Sir George Grey the hospitality of the district; the other with the all-important task of gathering lip data upon which to base our claims upon the consideration and assistance of his Government. These are, of course, familiar enough to us, but not to the m9mbers of the Cabinet; and unless, we can lay before our distinguished visitors "facts and figures" in an orderly and convincing form, we shall only have ourselves to blame if we fail to impress the Government with a conviction of the great urgency of of our require-

ments. We repeat the hope that, to use a familiar and homely expression, the ball will be kept rolling now that it has been so spiritedly set in motion by the people of Kumara in public meeting assembled. ..[Since the above was written, on Saturday, we have received definite information that Sir George Grey and-Mr Macandrew, with perhaps Mr Sheehan, will shortly visit the West Coast, coming overland via Christchurch.]
