Auckland, September 8. Captain H. W. Mast who arrived by the mail is authorise by the Hawaian Government to make arrangements for the immigration of Maoris and Friendly Islanders to Sandwich Islands to resuscitate the failing population. He will commence operations in Auckland. The annual report of the Insurance Commission shows that 1409 new policies were issued during the year for £563,928, the new premiums thereon being £20,777. The total annual income was £91,995; death claims, 11,750; accumulated fund, £219,394, being an increase during the year of £65,677. The number of policies in force was 7347, assuring £2, 734,902. It is stated there are only seven companies in Great Britain whose business exceeds the above, and they have been at a greater proportionate cost.

The information against Weir and Samson for incendiarism was dismissed to-day. I Further evidence was taken in George Proudfoot'a case, which was adjourned. Wanganui, September 7. The dates fixed for holding the Colonial Regatta are the 12th and 13th February. The prizes amount to £4OO. LYTTELTOrf, September 7. The Lyttelton Harbor Board have decided to offer Messrs Cunningham and Co. L 20.000 for their interest in the lease of Peacock's Wharf, Lyttelton. If accepted, all wharves and jetties at Lyttelton are then to be vested in the Board.
The medical officer of the local Board of Health reports 70 cases of infectious diseases during the past eight months; 40 being scarlet fever, 20 typhoid fever, 10 diptheria. The number of deaths from zymotic diseases during the same period being 33, of 24 were of children. The report was considered very satisfactory. Tima.ru, September 7. At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day, Joseph Cockcroft, jun., a bankrupt, was charged with not fully stating his affairs to his creditors' trustee as to whom he disposed of a portion of his effects to, and for what consideration. He was committed for trial at the criminal sittings of the District Court.
