CENTRAL BOARD OF EDUCATION.
A special meeting of the Board of Education was held last night in the office, Main-street. Present:—Messrs Patton, (chairman), Plaisted, Patterson and Revell.
The business to be transacted was the opening of tenders from persons willing to act as collectors of the Education Rate. A number of applications had been sent in, including three from members of the Police force, but in consequence of Inspector James having declared it to be inadvisable to appoint a constable, these were not entertained. The following were approved of conditionally :—Hokitika—J. J. Clark, 8 per cent.; Arahura -R. W. Sandle, 7£ per cent.; Christchurch Road—H, "W. Sandle, £5 lump sum ; Greymouth—J. Clune, 12 per cent. ; Paroa—,T. Clune, 20 per cent. ; Kanieri—R. Paul, 10 per cent.; Totara—J'. Kennedy, 12 percent. No tenders had been received foi the districts of Okarito, Jackson's Bay, and Bruce Bay.
