"Is there no hope « the sick man said ; The silent doctor shook his ho»d." " While there is life there's hope, he cried." " iEgroto, dum anima est, spes est," DR. L. L. SMITH, (The only legally qualified medical man advertising.) CONSULTS on all Affections of the Nervous System (no matter rom what cause arißiug). On all broken-down constitutions. On all diseases arising from early indiscretions. On Gout. On Rlieu-natlsm, IN these colonies, those excesses which we have indulged in "hot youth" tell upon ua with fearfnl interest. Our regrets are useless, our repinings futile. The sole idea should be the chances we possess of remedying the ills we al- 1, ready have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good an exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later Wb vices will discover him to the world. Our faith, our obligations to Bociety at large, the welfare of our future offspring, and the duty, we owe to ourselves forbid procrastination, and point out to us, not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negociating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk, before employing a barrister, a careful man makes enquiries as to their standing, their length of occupany or residence; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the seleotion of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions and without, regard to the fitness, qualification, experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lie in quite an opposite direction. It is astonishing that so many are driven mad, ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope and money ? Have 1 not for years pointed, out to them that—"l, Dr. L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified man advertising in the Colonies?" Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are selling,—such as Phosphodyne, Essence of, life, &c.—and had analised and found them to consist of " Burnt Sugar and flavouring matter," and the certificates I have proved to be all forgeries. It is for thi3 reason that I step out of the ethics of profession and advertise, to give those who require the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one, moreover, who has made this his especial study. Dr. L. L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, and h*> has been in Melbourne twenty-four years in full practice on Nervous Diseases Loss of Power and Debility Syphilitic Affections I Want of Condition i Gout and Rheumatism. I Dr. L. L. Smith can be consulted by ' letterI—Fee, 1 —Fee, £l. Medicines forwarded to i all the colonies. | Dr. L. L. Smith, 182 Collinß-st:. East. (Late the Residence of the Governor.
