Auckland, September 4. Great interest; was felt here in the race between the old Sydney trading steamer, Hero, and the Union Company's Eotorua, on which there was a large amount of betting. The steamers ! left Auckland within a quarter of an ■ hour, of each other. A cable message to the agents state that the Hero got in first, the Rotorua having knocked two of the Mades oft her pro-teller. Horris Hyrnan, a partner in a wholesale business firm, was remanded on a charge of forging a name to eight transfers of shares.
