ARAHURA ROAD BOARD.
The Arahura Road Board met at 4 o’clock 'yesterday afternoon, . in the Warden’s Court. Present—Messrs Honlahan (chair), Sandle, Griffith, Murphy, and Seddon. After the minutes of the last meeting had been read and confirmed, the following business was transacted. A request from the Stafford School Committee for the use of the Board Office for meetings, was-granted. Mr Sandle thanked 1 the Board for its courtesy, A number of objections to. the proposed road to Dillman’s TbWn, as also a petition numerously signed were read. They were from Shamrock Lead and Dunedin Slat, and stated that the miners intended to sluice the whole of (he ground. , Mr Sandle called upon the secretary to report npon the road objected to. The Secretary said this was the last track ho had surveyed, and detailed what he had done in the matter of these tracks. All the tracks bad been interfered with by claims for compensation. Mr Sandle thought the people of BUI. man’s Town were averse to the construction of the road at all. He was sure that the road now complained of would do ranch injury. He moved that the prayer of the petition be,granted* The Chairman seconded the motion. Mr Griffith said that the committee had desired to convenience the miners as much as possible. He would certainly not allow them to be injured. Mr Sandle referred to a letter which appeared in the Kumaba Times. The writer of the letter was more able to use his pen than tell the truth. The Board had done their, best for the nitnAnj, The Chairman moved that information be sent as requested to the Government as to the expense of valuation for the purpose of assessment incurred by the 'Board. ... • An account from James Noonin for subsidy to the lower ferry at the Teremakan was sent to the County Council, with» recommendation for its payment. The Chairman presented a petitiflkfrom the residents of Lamplough, fourth fifth and sixth terraces. It was received, and the secretary was instructed to’ tnafre a rmish estimate of the cost of the.traok asked for. . m Mr Walsh, of the GoldsborpnghT'Oemetery Committee, was allowed to urgAnpan the Board the necessity of making Tour or five chains of road,' which would lessen the expenae of getting the Cemetery . reserve olealred. The Chaitinan moved, that the secretary report at the next meeting of the Board the probable cost v of the work askedfor. Carried. A report from the secretary spoke favorably of the possibility of a horse track from the Old Star Hotel td the beach, at a cost of £l5O. The Chairman moved that the report.be received. Mr Sandle moved that the secretary report the financial condition of the Board, before any fresh liabilities wens incurred. Mr Griffith seconded this, and it was agreed to. > ' Mr Seddon handed in a.letter, which ha had received from Messrs Blackmope and Co., It asked permission te lay abranch tramway from the Enterprise, trapiwny, along .the edge of the terrace' as mr.as Connolly’s Hotel, in Dillman’s Town*. Mr Seddon moved that the request be granted,-' subject to the - ordinary conditions. Mr Sandle seconded the motion, ’ Mr Griffith advised that the secretary see the place, and draw np the necessary agreement. This was carried: a / Mr Sandle 'moved that the meetiUgs of the Board be henceforth held in Stafford. The Chairman second the motion. Mr Seddon opposed the motion, atilt was rescinding a motion passed at a previous meeting, Mr Sandle then moved that the resolution passed on January 17th be rescinded. Mr Seddoq dissented, and the motion was lost. ..I , Mr Seddon asked leave to moye that the - Board appoint a committee to confer with the Kumara Borough Council as to finance. The Board refused permission. Mr Sandle gave notice of motion to rescind the resolution of January 17th.• A letter was here handed to the chairman, who said he would not read it, as ha considered it out of order, Before the tenders were opened for repairs for the year, and for track to Hnmpey’s Mr Sandle moved, and Mr Griffith seconded, the lowest tender b© accepted, and if not taken np; the deposit be forfeited. ' Mr Seddon thought it would be time enough to decide the point after tho tenders Lad been opened. Motion carried. . For mamtainanceof roads a tender for £lO5 was accepted, for .Liverpool Bill’s road, and one for , £IOB. 19,0. The tenders were opened privately by the members of the Board, and the , result announced so rapidly that *the names could not be caught at the reporter’s table. After transacting other business, the Board adjourned about 7 o’clock.
