The Kumara Times. PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING. SATURDAY, AUGUST 26, 1877.
Mr R. J. Seddon has handed to us the following telegram, which speaks for itself:—Kumara, August, 24,1877. To C. Lemon, Esq., General Manager of New Zealand Telegraph Department. Dear Sir, I am requested by a number of leading citizens ef this town to ask if 'you would make arrangements to have the Telegraph Office here open from half-past seven to eight p.m. It would be a great boon to the town. Trusting you will kindly accede to this request.— I remain, yours, <fec, Richard John Seddon, Mayor. At a meeting of the Range Committee held last evening, the tender of Edwards and Co., for clearing Rifle Range was accepted at 13s per chain. The usual weekly parade of the Kumara Rifles, was held last night in the Theatre, there was a good muster, and several new members were proposed, Messrs Seddon and Bulstrode being enrolled as Honorary Members. It was notified that the contractor for making the uniforms would be in Kumara this evening, and would take the measure of every member requiring the same. The usual Church Services will be held to morrow in Kumara. "Want of space prevents the appearance in today's issue of the " Loiterer's" contribution. The Adelphi Music Hall and the Theatre Royal provide entertainments this evening, particulars of which may be learned by, reference to advertisements in this issue. Tenders for the new Hospital Ward are to be sent in to the Chairman of the Committee before 6 o'clock on Monday evening. The fencing in of the Hospital reserve will soon be effected, much of the material having now been prepared. On Friday next, Mr Inglis is to'take a benefit at the Theatre Royal. The piece to be performed is " The Ticket of Leave" a sensational drama which has been very popular played. Mr Inglis is to be assisted by a number of amateurs, and his benefit" will be under the patronage of the Fire Brigade. The most sensational tableaux in the piece have been sketched by Mr Inglis and will be exhibited early next week. They are extremely creditable to that gentleman as an artist. Last evening shortly after 6 o'clock Mr Hogg, late agent of the Bank of New South Wales, was locked up on.a charge connected with the recent Barik robbery. It is rumoured that he has confessed that he concocted the whole affair and carried it out by himself. Tbisafternon he was brought before Mr Gibson J. P., as appears in another part of this issue. An error in Mr King's dining {rooms' advertisement in the early part of this •week made it appear that his charge for dinner was one shilling, It should have been advertised as eighteenpence. A document of more than usual interest has lately been received in Kumara. This is the warrant for the Lazar Lodge of Kumara, bearing the sign manual of the Prince of "Wales, as Grand Master of the order of Masons. In the left-hand upper corner of the parchment appear the names " Albert Edward, G. M." The warrant was presented to the Lodge last night before a large number of brethren. Mr Lazar made a telling addiess on the occasion to the Worshipful Master, Brother Ancher. We understand that his Royal Highness affixed his signature as a particular favour, through the representations of Mr Lazar to the Grand Secretary at home. The Beehive is a great want supplied. Its priceß are little leas than marvellous, yet there are some things it will not do it will not charge two prices for the same article. To one and all, ." Buy once, and you will always buy." Make no mistake ; be satisfied that you are at the Beehive ; it is in Main-street, nearly opposite the , Bank of Australasia.—[Advt.]
