KUMARA LICENSES.

Mr Price as special licensing officer for Kumara sat at the R.M. Court House this morning. In opening the proceedings he called attention to the disproportion of lioensed houses in Kuroara compared with other towns. In Christchurch, with a population of 5,000, there are only 39 retail licenses ; In Hokitika, 50 ; in Greymouth, 32 ; in Wellington, 42. Kumara, with a population of 1400, half of which are women and children, had already 40 licenses, and now applied for 9 more. He then called upon new applicants.
