j Auckland, June 11. I Captain' -Pallant of the schooner Mera, from Dunedin, while at Hokianga, met ’.with a severe accident while assisting to doad timber into the hold. The timber •was being lowered in the slings when the gear slipped, breaking his leg and seriously injuring his chest. Lyttelton, June 11. Sailed—Garibaldi, for Hokitika. Wellington, June xL The City Council passed a resolution to-day, by 7 to 3, “ That Mr Climic be. appointed engineer to. carry out the drainage scheme, and Mr Blackett to be consulting engineer; if Mr Blackettshould not be available, then Mr Bell be requested to act.”. A committee of the whole Gouucil is to meet Mr Climic and discuss the terms, etc. • . The motion, re the dismissal of the officials, is to be farther considered at a special meeting .next Monday. Mr Travers, 6u behalf of the citizens, presented an address and a parse of 175 sovs. to Michael Monahan, late seniorsergeant in the police force, here. A large attendance of merchants .and other ; ’loading citizens was present at the presentation. •
