The Kumara Times. PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING. WEDESDAY, MAY 30, 1877.
Wo were under the impression that tenders for the repair and maintenance of the track from Seddon-street to Dillman's Town had been accepted, and the contract duly ratified. If our impression is correct, then some one is seriously to blamo for the wretched condition of the said track. It is now almost impassable for horses, and foot-passengers attempting the passage frequently turn back in di9may, at the sea of mud to be waded through. The gold-ring advertised as lost, in yesterday's Kumara Times, has been brought to this office by Mr James Kelly, of Murphy's butchery, to whom the pound reward has been duly paid. Mr Kelly, with commendable liberality, handed the amount to us, to be given in his name to the treasurer of th 9 Local Hospital Wt,r J. The Literary Institute requires a librarian. Porsons willing to undertake the duties should apply to the hon. secretary, Btthe National Bank, Seddon-street, before noon to-morrow.
The Arahura Road Board met this afternoon at 4 o'clock, in the Court House.
Tenders are required for the painting of Mrs Enright's new building, in Mainstreet.
Tenders for the erection of a building will be received till noon, to-morrow, at Mr M'Lennan'a, next the Theatre Royal, Seddon-street, where plans and specifications can be seen.
Greymouth coal is to be tried at the Nelson Gai Works. Letters of naturalization have been issued in favour of Mr John Johnson, restaurant keeper, Kumara.
The return of traffic on the Brunner and Greymonth Railway for the four weeks ending May sth gives a total of .£395 103 Gd.
Mr E. T. Robinson, secretary to the Central Board of Education for Westland, is now in Kumara, and will be in his office, Main-street, every evening, after 6 o'clock.
A Post-Office will be opened at Westbrook, better known as Houlaban's, at the Junction of the Maraden and Greenstone roads, on the Ist proximo. We are requested to call attention to an advertisement in another column, notifying that Mr R. E. Gteen intends opening a vocal music instruction class, commencing on Tuesday, the 6th proximo. The lodge-room at the Club Hotel has been secured for the purpose. A clas3 of the kind—for the cultivation of vocal music—is one of the many wants of a young town like Kumara, and we heartily wish Mr Green every success. The warden will have brought before him, to-morrow, a case of nnuMial gravity, the amount in dispute being; £2OO. This sum is claimed from Mr F. A. Learmonth, as manager of the Kumara Water Race, by Messrs. Dreyclnft and party, for damage inflicted on their head-race by the cutting off of a portion of their registered water supply in November last. The Kumara Water-race is heing brought along Tui-street. The cutting will serve to drain the road, close to which it is being run. The Public School building is row. making rapid progress. All the piles upon which the structure is to be raised are in position, and the framing of some of the walls put together and erected. Should the fine weather continue for a few days the public will, before the end of next week, be able to form some opinion of what the appearance of the new building is likely to be.
