THE LOITERER IN KUMARA.

“FESTINA LENTE.” I have had handed to me a song, written by “ Crusno Polango.” It is rather too long for me to publish the whole of it, but I have much pleasure in giving my readers a couple of verses. Here it is;— SONG. Our Kumara Volunteers. [Air— Bow, Bow-wow, &c.] x. Now all you Larrikin Volunteers, Just list awhile to me, But mind you don’t get frightened, If the Russians cross the sea. We beat them at the Crimea, Where they kicked up such a row, And we are able to beat them again, my boys, If they’ll come up the Teremakau. Chorus —With my Bow-wow, &c. • ii. So cheer up my Gallant Volunteers, And mind you attend to drill; And if the Bear comes here, my boys, We will prove a bitter pill. For you have men amongst you, Who won’t run away I trow, Oh, what a treat, if we should meet, The Bear on the Teremakau. Chorus. It is said that a novel, in two volumes, is about to he sent home for publication by an eminent firm. The novel is said to be a joint production from the versatile pens of Messrs R. J. S n, and D. M. Its title is to’be “The Jumper’s jumped upon; or, Kumara and its Price.” The dedication will be to Mrs E 1 and Mr D y. Another book of thrilling interest is spoken of as likely soon to appear from the pen of T. I. Its title is “ The Lottery Ticket; or, Hokitika Hocuspocus.” Who- was it that paid for the flags, That were all of them tom up in rags 1 1 don’t mean the white, blue, and red-uns, That flaunted so gaily at Seddon’s. But those which ’twaa certainly odd, Though hanging ’twixt Dardson and Todd, Were held t’ have been damaged by Drummond, Who by Anchor was ruthlessly summoned. Through this action, when put on their mettle, The Road Board consented to settle. Frank Truman.
