There have been great debates on the Eastern Question in both Houses of Parliament. On Friday, February 16, Mr Gladstone brought forward the subject in a speech, which Mr Hardy answered, saying that the Government would in no case apply coercion to Turkey. The same evening Mr Chaplin made a passionate attack on Mr Gladstone, accusing him of conduct inconsiitent with a man of honour. Mr Gladstone retaliated and the scene was one of confusion and excitement, Austria, in the event of war, would probably remain aloof, reserving the right to act independently. The Berlin Government is supposed to be more sympathetic toward Russia. The Russian army in Bessarabia now reaches 300,000 men, and a very large force has also been collected on the Asiatic frontier,
