The Lazar Masonic Lodge-holds its re-' gular meeting at 8 o’clock, this at the Public Hall. ! Now that the tramway is about to bring Greymonth and Kumara into closer connection than they have hitherto been in, there will doubtless be a large number of parcels brought to and fro between the two towns. For the quick transport of these from the Kumara terminus an express has just been set up by an enter - prising townsman. Such a conveyance' will, even in the absence of the tramway, ■ be a convenience in the district, and will soon bo found to be a good speculation. The Church of England services will be conducted on Sunday evening at the Theatre Royal, by the Rev. Mr Gilbert, who will also preach. The services are ’ now independent of the Stafford and Goldsborough choir. Mr Dan, Murphy is determined to strike. the iron while it is hot. He advertises in : another column that he has laid off his ! freehold property in- suitable sections, and is prepared to let or sell them.

Messrs Mark Sprot and Co., advertise i that they have received instructions from > Messrs Keeeh and Molloy to sell, early , next week, 100 sections at the New Rush, on the other aide of the Teremakan. .

Morgan Burk, brother of Mr Burk, formerly of Granville, Half-Ounce, has been killed by accident in the Province of Hawke’s Bay.

At an interview with the Hon. D. Reid at Cromwell, a member of the deputation referred to the necessity for the route to the West Coast, via the Haast Pass, being rendered available for traffic. Mr Reid pointed oat that so far as opening the route by road was concerned, that was a matter for the County Councils. If surveyors were available, he did not think Government would be averse to assisting to some extent. As to connection by railway, it was not improbalbe a flying survey would be made before any roote was definitely settled upon.

The Hokitika Star says :—“ It is expected that Mr Ssddon will resign his seat in the County Council, owing to the pressure of private business.” A writer in the Journal of Chemistry thus refers, to the use ..of celery:— r ‘ J have known many who,' from various 'causes, had become much affected by nervousness,’ and who, by a moderate daily use o! the blanched foot-stalka of celery as a salad, became as strong and steady as other people. I have known others so nervous that the least annoyance put them in a state of agitation, and . they were in constant perplexity and fear, who were also effectually cured by a moderate daily use of blanched celery as a salad. Everybody engaged in labor weakening to |he nerves should use celery daily in the season, and onions in its stead when not In season.
