With four wickets to go down. , The following is the text of Atlas’s paragraph in the World:—“ I understand that the Prince of Wales has fully determined to carry out the project of paying a visit to Australia and New Zealand, which the success and pleasure of his Indian tour first led him to conceive. The subject has not formally taken shape, but I believe the Prime Minister is cognisant of and approves of the projected visit to the Antipodes.” A telegram has been received here from Grey mouth, stating that George Jackson is prepared to scull Hearn, or find a man in the Grey Valley to do so, for a sum of money from £SO to £250, and asking if a match can be made. A reply has been telegraphed that Hearn is.prepared to row Jackson for £250, allowing him £25 for expenses to come tb Wellington to row the match. Port Chalmers, April 11. The ship Duke of Sutherland, from Sydney, for London, put in at Port Chalmers, having encountered a terrific gale on March 26, in lat. 48 deg, 43 min. S., long. 171 W"., carrying away the binnacle, skylight, poop ladder, and Everything moveable, beat in the stem window, filled the cabin and main deck up to the rail with water j washed away the wheel carrying two men with it, one named Frank Hockter, a Russian Fin, was drowned and the second was washed on board. Captain Loutit was washed overboard, but Was saved by his coat catching in the main brace. The humping broke his;collar’ bone and ribs. The gale moderated on March 27/ The ship bore up for Otago and arrived off : *he heads on the evening of the 6th, but was driven off by a S.W. gale; made lahd again yesterday, and was towed in this afternoon.
