A confiding butler has opened his heart to the. London Times. On December 29th the visitors’ bell of k nobleman’s house in Grosvenor-crescent was loudly rung. The housemaid answered the summons, and found a midile-aged gentleman, who enquired if lord or Lady H was at home. Thfhousemaid said, “Ho,” and then ad<ed “ The bntler is downstairs,” up>n which the gentleman said, “ ’lease tell him Major Ponsonbyssof Wndsor, wishes to speak to him.” The ccofiding butler went upstairs,' and the Visitor remarked, ‘’l am so sorry to tOuble you at such an inconvenient tine, but I am Major Ponsonby, and fhd myself without my purse ; I don’t Inow if I have left it in the strain, or vhere. Can you let me ..have a Ittle change? Have you 255, as that HII save me writing a cheque T The m butler said, “ I will see what I can ■ spare, as I, too, am leaving town,” and ■ then handed him 12s, for which the 1 stranger thanked him in a most artstocratic manner, promising to leave it as he passed. But the cash was not left, and upon joining his employers, the butler found that no such person was known to them.
