Oparau.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Rain fell, on the slopes of Pirongia, but on the low lauds only slight showers were experienced, but even these were very beneficial to the grass. Borne new burns have been pretty near re-burned on account of the long dry spell. The potato blight has destroyed all unsprayed crops of any consequence. . The tote low price of wool and sheep should push dairying along, especially as all the so-called Taranaki slavery has been overcome by tbe milking machine. Several makes are as near perfection as passible, and are thoroughly reliable. We cannot growl about our roads now, unless we eriticise the ignorance hewn by the surveyor who laid them ff.

The local branch of the Farmers’ Union has almost ceased to be of any use, as no meetings have been attended for some months,

There will be two sawmills at work soon, with a plainer each. Opposition is tbe life of trade. When milking gets in full swing there will be a big demand for timber.
